Bavaria Vase Large Pillow 10.5″X7″X4″ Rose Tulip Floral Artist Blackwelder 1987 An Elegant Decorative TALL Large PILLOW VASE from Bavaria, Germany, Hand Painted ROSES, TULIPS & Other FLOWERS w/Gold Trim, Smooth BOLD GOLD Rim, circa 1987 Decorated by International Porcelain Art Teachers member Miss Nash Blackweller DESCRIPTION: The beautiful vase was hand painted by a very talented artist, Miss Nash Blackweller. The wide gold band at the top rim is rectangular. The very large flowers with their leaves, stems and buds are very realistic and painted such that the vase can be viewed from all angles as the flowers seem to flow around the vase. The exterior & interior of the vase is the high white of the porcelain and is clean.. The foot of the vase is slightly recessed and painted in solid gold paint. The mold is marked 7808/1/A. That means 7808 is the model #. /1 means 1 size as the German 1 looks like a 7, but a German 7 has a cross hatch. (I know this from teaching math to a delightful German exchange student in the 1980’s.) CONDITION: While this vase is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. DIMENSIONS: The rectangular pillow vase has a height of 10 1/2″ with a length of 7″ and a width of 4″. The vase’s opening is a rectangle of 5 1/8″ by 2 1/2″. HISTORY/MARKS: The bottom of the base is stamped with the green mark for Gerold & Co. Tettau, Bavaria, Made in West Germany. This was renamed New Porcelain Co. Ltd in 1993. That mark cited by the website, Marks for Ceramics, as mark #1 used 1937-1960 with West Germany added 1949-1989. The vase was gifted at Christmas in 1987 to Ruth from Marie. It was decorated by International Porcelain Art Teachers member Miss Nash Blackweller. The International Porcelain Art Teachers was established in 1958 in Dallas, Texas. So the vase was manufactured in Tettau, Bavaria, West Germany sometime after 1949 and decorated after 1958 to be presented as a gift in 1987.
